I love an all black outfit, as do all of us girls, and Jaz and I certainly lived up to our ‘monochrome’ name when we shot our outfits last week! I’m really enjoying simple, chic outfits like this at the moment as they’re so versatile; you can add a huge statement necklace and killer heels to go out for drinks, or a suede jacket and boots for a day look.

So I’m wearing head-to-toe black again, such a surprise, I know. I had wanted to pair this amazing statement skirt with a cream cami, but black just meant that the skirt was centre of attention, which I definitely think it deserves to be. It’s a massive Primark bargain and also comes in tan for those of you that aren’t as addicted to black as I am.

I wore this outfit for a casual lunch last weekend and I’m not going to lie, I was roasting – the great Manchester weather being as unpredictable as it is. I was, however, super comfy – a winner for any Sunday.

I’ve been away for a few days this week as Liam and I celebrated our anniversary with a night away, followed by a couple of nights away for his brother’s wedding – and I’ve had the best time ever. I’m so not ready to go back to reality tomorrow, so am probably going to spend today just watching The Wire and eating. Perfection. How will you be spending yours?

Top Five Places For Cake In Manchester

Ellen / Food

Going for cake is one of my favourite weekend treats – I love it almost as much as going out for brunch (sensing a pattern in my favourite pastimes here, anybody?), and I’m lucky that Manchester has a number of amazing spots for me to indulge my sweet tooth.

As you’ll know from my past posts, I usually follow a pretty healthy lifestyle, but those that know me know that when I indulge, I REALLY indulge! Here are my favourite places to get cake in Manchester.

Sugar Junction (Tib Street)

With a cute vintage vibe, Sugar Junction specialises in tea and cake and is the perfect mid-afternoon shopping stop off. You can choose from a range of afternoon and cream teas, including gluten free options, as well as a daily fresh cake selection that boasts beauties like peanut butter and banana cake.

Fig & Sparrow (Oldham Street)

I wrote about my love for design shop-meets-coffee bar Fig & Sparrow a while back. While the coffee is great, it also boasts a yummy selection of cakes and brownies, with gluten free and vegan choices available. The gluten free brownies are a Friday staple in my office – they come in peanut butter, chocolate orange, salted caramel and double chocolate flavours.

Tea42 (High Street)

Tea42 steps away from traditional tearooms with an extensive gluten free menu. The cakes are mouthwatering, and the eatery recently won a FreeFrom Eating Out Award.

Richmond Tea Rooms (Richmond Street)

Richmond Tea Rooms plays on an Alice In Wonderland-reminsicent, traditional theme to bring a deluxe ad extravagant cake experience. Its offering changes day to day, but you can be sure to find classics including Victoria sponge, lemon drizzle cake and black forest gateau.

Home Sweet Home (Edge Street)

Having raved about the pancakes in my recent brunch post, I couldn’t write a post about cake and not include Home Sweet Home. The mouthwatering creations on offer are second to none – my must-tries are the Oreo cheesecake and cookie dough pie.

Chocolate Bomb

Australasia is one of my favourite restaurants and you can probably see why from these photos. They offer three course meals or a tapas style dining, which I always choose to go with. We ordered a whole host of plates including sushi, sashimi, ceviche, lamb chops, black cod, sweet potato and tempura. I love the food, it’s filling without making you feel stuffed, which means there’s always room for dessert!

The chocolate bomb is a spectacle; the waiter brought over the dessert and poured hot caramel over the chocolate shape to melt it away and reveal an ice cream centre. Delicious, sweet and a treat for the eyes.

The high street is starting to have drops of new clothes that I’m really loving. I love the ease of summer dressing, but autumn gives a great opportunity to play with different textures and shades of coats, jackets and jumpers. Here’s what I’m loving for the transition from summer to autumn:

Zara Croc Messenger Bag

Zara Bag

I have big handbags and clutches, but nothing in between. For the last few weeks, I’ve been looking to find the perfect shoulder bag and here it is; black, croc, pony hair and gold detailing. This will be perfect for weekends away or weekend shopping trips.

Office Black Pointed Leather Boots

Black Pointed Boots

Black boots are a staple in my wardrobe, however I need a pair with a low heel for work or walking around at the weekend. I love these pointed boots; they’ll look great with black jeans or bare legs and give me a bit of added height without hurting my feet.

ASOS Suede Dress

Suede Dress

I’m loving suede at the moment and this dress is such a beautiful colour. This will be great for transitioning into Autumn; it would work with bare legs and heels or black tights and boots.

Topshop Sleeveless Jacket

Sleeveless Jacket

This is another great transitional piece; I’ve seen lots of sleeveless jackets but this grey colour is a little different to everything else in the shops. It will be great for both work and evening drinks; I love the tailored look.

Zara Grey Hat

Zara Hat

Ellen has a great collection of hats and I want to get a couple more for my wardrobe. I love this grey wool style; it will look great with a day dress and black coat and boots when it gets colder.

What are you coveting at the moment?
